After a cameo in “Vicky Donor”, Delhi-based actress Deepa Singh’s next was the role of Phoolan Devi in the “Beehad: The Ravines.”
On a visit to Delhi, Deepa told us, “After doing a lot of theatre in Delhi at the National School of Drama, I heard about this film, and I went and auditioned for it. Around 100 girls were auditioned, and I got selected because, I guess, they thought my facial features matchedPhoolan’s.

We shot the film in Beehad, near UP. The most difficult part was the gaalis. Since there are about 50 cuss words in the film, saying them openly was not very easy. I’ve always been a Delhi girl, I’m not used to abusing, so I had to rehearse a lot, attend workshops and even live in those areas where Phoolan lived to get the accent and tone right for such dialogues.”
Wasn’t Rakhi Sawant supposed to play Phoolan Devi in the film? She had announced many times that she would. “It’s a very serious role, very character-based. I don’t think Rakhi would have been able to pull off such a role,” replied the actress.
